You may say that it’s okay, because the man going through the secret trial, closed to the public, is a terrorist. The truth is, though, that you don’t know that he’s a terrorist. He’s never been convicted of any terrorism-related crime. All you know is that the government says that he’s a terrorist.

Now, we know that the government has been conducting massive electronic surveillance against American citizens, grabbing information about our telephone calls, mail and email, and internet habits, as well as our commercial activity and travel patterns, and putting all that information into a giant government database that allows the federal government to track our private activities.
