I found a cozy little group of eight Barack Obama buttons today over at a cozy little web site called Good Left Hook. It’s not hard to find Barack Obama buttons these days, but the thing that stands out to me about this collection of buttons is that they’re just, well, atypical.
Typically, a political button follows the motif set by the candidate. For a presidential candidate, it usually is red, white and blue and has a star, or a representation of the American flag. You see, the idea is that if those items aren’t there, we might just forget that we live in the United States of America.
Sometimes, the White House sits in the background, just so that we can make no mistake about what the button’s intention is. Don’t these conventions get kind of boring after awhile? I’m happy to say that none of the eight buttons follows the conventions of political button designs. They’re all for Obama, and they’re all original - kind of like Obama himself.

I spoke to the designer of this collection of campaign buttons just this morning, and apparently, the collection has been up for only a few hours. He says we can expect to see their anti-McCain pins double in number by the end of the day.

Weavers are the practitioners of warp and woof. They start with spools of string and end up with art. They see both union and individuality. That’s the metaphor people refer to when they talk about the fabric of the American nation.

An Obama-Sebelius political team has obvious potential to bring Democrats together, showing a positive, powerful new face for the American future. There’s never been a ticket like this before, but the USA is a country where the limitations of the past have fallen over and over again to the progress of democratic ideals.

Hank Johnson may be from Georgia, but he’s a solid progressive, earning a 75 percent rating from the Progressive Patriots legislative scorecard. He’s voted against dangerous bills like the Big Brother bill to establish government spying against Americans, ironically entitled the Protect America Act. Representative Johnson stands for straightforward, common-sense support for Head Start preschool programs, and efforts to abolish the use of child soldiers.

Politically, Vito Fossella ought to be judged according to his actions in Congress, not according to his private actions during his time away from his job. That’s just the approach that has been taken by Steve Harrison, a Democrat challenging Fossella for New York’s 13th district seat in the House of Representatives.

In 2004, America asked Santa Claus for a simple gift: Please, Santa Claus, dump Bush!
Alas, we were not good little boys and girls. Or, maybe, we didn’t give Santa enough cookies with his milk. Whatever we did wrong, Santa decided not to give America what it was asking for.
Four years later, America […]
