The Homeland Insecurity Seal

December 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

The logo of the Department of Homeland Security seal was designed with the wings of the American eagle breaking through a red line, in order to symbolize the way that the new regime of Homeland Security would break through red tape. Of course, another way to think about what they call “red tape” is to remember that another term for “red tape” is “law”. That Homeland Security eagle is an indication of what was to come after the imposition of Homeland Security: A campaign of illegal activities by the government itself.

We designed our own logo in satirical protest of the Homeland Security seal, to represent the true nature of the Department of Homeland Security. It’s not security that Homeland Security brings us, after all. Rather, Homeland Security serves to create insecurity. So we remade the Homeland Security seal as the new symbol of a virtual Department of the U.S. federal government: The Department of Homeland Insecurity.

With a whip and a sword, an all seeing eyes and a mushroom cloud, in the color of the authoritarian Nazis before them, and yes, obscuring that circle of red tape, the sharp claws of the eagle of Homeland Insecurity are coming to sweep down upon you.
