Clean water seems like something so basic that we shouldn’t even have to work for it, that it ought to be always available, without question. Unfortunately, that isn’t so. Much of the water in the USA isn’t clean - isn’t fit to drink, isn’t fit to swim in, isn’t fit to fish from.
The Clean Water Act was supposed to change that. Unfortunately, right wing Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican candidates saw things differently, and ruled to overturn the power of the Clean Water Act to protect a huge number of American waterways and wetlands.
Some in Congress are working to overcome that problem with a new piece of legislation to restore the integrity of the Clean Water Act. The bill is called the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007.
Presidential candidates Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich have come out in support of the Clean Water Restoration Act. Local writers are clamoring for other presidential candidates to do so as well. The National Wildlife Federation is leading an activist campaign to pressure additional members of Congress to co-sponsor the bill.
Please do your part. Support the Clean Water Restoration Act.
