We named our web site Progressive Buttons, but we might just as easily have named it Liberal Buttons.

Progressive is just a new old term for liberal. People ran away from the term “liberal” when Democratic politicians like Michael Dukakis and John Kerry got soft and weak when they were accused of being liberals. “Let’s not use labels,” they said, hemming and hawing.

Why would they refuse to be called liberals? What makes the name of “liberal” an accusation in the first place?

A liberal is someone who values liberty.

What the heck is wrong with that? What do right wing politicians have against liberty? Why do so many Democratic politicians feel afraid to say that they believe in the value of liberty?

Don’t join the spineless Democrats. Don’t give in to the bullying right wing. Declare yourself a proud liberal - with this button, and no apologies.
